Announcement

Families who have children and young people with special needs very often deal with similar life styles. We have all had concerns ranging from education, acess to services, respite and other issues directly related to their childrens needs. Parents of disabled children bring families together for friendship, to share information and to support one another.

The forum was created by parents who have children with special needs and is run by parents so we are all in this together. With us you will realise you are not alone

Parents of disabled children launched in October 2009 and we are growing day by day and are fastly becoming a major support resource for all

Hiya, I am a parent of 3 Children, 2 of who have different special needs. I hav been asked to write an article based on the poem i wrote at end of last yr (posted on another thread) about how we as parents can sometimes get lost looking after our children, ie: that we ignore sometimes what we want/need/hope for because we dont have the time, energy or fight left in us to do these things.
please would any of you mind donating examples about you and your life? it can be a full scenario/something thats happened or just a single line about how you feel. You can answer all or any of the following questions or tell me just how you feel or have felt.
Do you do things that are just for you?
How do you make time for yourself?
How do you make time for you and your partner?
How do you make time for your other children?
When was the last time you had a break?
Do you ever feel that you and your needs are ignored, because your child needs so much?
Have you felt that profesionals saw you and your family as a whole group of people or just vague shapes behind the person with a condition?
What could we do as individuals to have more time for us?
What could proffessionals do to help parents?

Basically anything at all, stories, examples, feelings, etc. any examples that i use will be de-personalised and made anonymous so you can be as truthful as you like and give real examples as no personal details or locations etc will be in the finished article.

Thankyou Smile (poem is attached if you want to reread to see what im basing the article on Smile
