We have all had concerns ranging from education, acess to services, respite and other issues directly related to their childrens needs. Parents of disabled children bring families together for friendship, to share information and to support one another.

The forum was created by parents who have children with special needs and is run by parents so we are all in this together. With us you will realise you are not alone

Parents of disabled children launched in October 2009 and we are growing day by day and are fastly becoming a major support resource for all

Therapies other than what you receive on the NHS
cheapsensorytoys
Hi

Thought I would start a thread about other therapies people do for their children that they think may have a benefit. You know ones that you don't usually get on the NHS.
We currently go to the Advance Centre in Sussex and do the Scotson Technique with Zack.

Whilst I don't think it is a magic cure I do feel that it has helped Zack a lot. However it is hard to pinpoint whether his development so far has been down to himself or due to this therapy or a mixture of everything we are doing. Either way his breathing is much better and he is very relaxed when we do the therapy.

What have other people tried out?

Hi,

I take my son to private physio where they have a specialist piece of equipment called the spider (he doesnt use this at the moment - not old enough) but he does floor work there which i really good and makes him work really hard i think that its called Kinetic physio.

We also take him to have bowen physio done on him which he really seems to enjoy.

I posted earlier on a different thread but the article may be of use here Smile

Horses! It's called Hippotherapy and I've seen it work time and time again with Children who never smile, just touching a horse or sitting on them is wonderful and they really do connect Smile

Here's an article but please do get in touch with RDA and see what is available in your area.
