Announcement

Families who have children and young people with special needs very often deal with similar life styles. We have all had concerns ranging from education, acess to services, respite and other issues directly related to their childrens needs. Parents of disabled children bring families together for friendship, to share information and to support one another.

The forum was created by parents who have children with special needs and is run by parents so we are all in this together. With us you will realise you are not alone

Parents of disabled children launched in October 2009 and we are growing day by day and are fastly becoming a major support resource for all

There comes a point in your life when you realize:Who matters,Who never did,Who won't anymore...And who always will..
So, don't worry about people from your past, there's a reason why they didn't make it to your future.

Hi not due back till end of year, not looking forward to it. Never had any money towards nursery etc Mum has always helped with childcare but she doesnt feel able to cope with a little one who has DS. Have asked about going part-time, work are being a bit shitty about it. Me and OH have always been classed as earning too much to qualify for any help, hes a teacher iam a psych nurse so not paupers but with 7 Children not rich either. We own our house but remortgaged to extend couple of years ago no where left to extend and no money to do it. 15 year old has a room which isnt really big enough to be classed as a bedroom, but cant go in with anyone else as he can get so aggressive couldnt trust him to not do someone some damage. Still he,s keeping a local plasterer in work , punches or kicks holes in walls and doors.....

Hi Paula,
I would firstly suggest that you use our online benefit check
http://www.parentsofdisabledchildren.co....t-521.html
Use it and work on the assumption you are working part time and put in your wages as a part time income.
Then complete it again on a full time basis and see what you would be entitled to on both sides of the coin.
Tax credits allow people to claim upto £60 k so there is help for most people of some sort.
You mention about work being funny about you wanting to work part time.

New parents also have a legal right to ask for more flexible working hours when they have a child. Companies can still refuse to agree if will disrupt the business, but as long as the changes are reasonable, such as a slight change of hours, requests are rarely turned down.

Under the rules companies are required to seriously consider requests for flexible working from parents with children under the age of six, or disabled children under the age of 18.
