Announcement

Families who have children and young people with special needs very often deal with similar life styles. We have all had concerns ranging from education, acess to services, respite and other issues directly related to their childrens needs. Parents of disabled children bring families together for friendship, to share information and to support one another.

The forum was created by parents who have children with special needs and is run by parents so we are all in this together. With us you will realise you are not alone

Parents of disabled children launched in October 2009 and we are growing day by day and are fastly becoming a major support resource for all

Netbuddy has been approached by a television company called October Films, who are looking for a family to take part in a BBC1 documentary about young people with learning disabilities and their families during the transition into adult life.

The company recently made the BBC 1 documentary called 'Tormented Lives' with Rosa Monckton about verbal and physical abuse suffered by people with learning disabilities. The film had a hugely positive response and is now being used as an educational tool by the police.

Filming on their new documentary is well underway and they are looking for one more family to help show that this transition is not always a smooth process. They would like to speak to the families of young adults with learning disabilities in their 20’s who have moved out of the family home, but where the transition is not proving satisfactory. They are looking for a current story, rather than one where there were difficulties in the past that have now been resolved.

If you think your family could fit the bill – or you know someone who might be interested in taking part – please email the producer kate.taunton@octoberfilms.co.uk as soon as possible, telling them you have received this email from Netbuddy, and giving them a contact telephone number and a good time to talk. This would be for an informal chat on the phone in confidence with absolutely no commitment to being involved in the documentary.

Best wishes,

Emma and the Netbuddy Team
