Hi, i have recently been assessed for direct payments for my 6 year old son who is autistic.

As i struggle in the school holidays, because he does'nt like to go to new places or i need another person with me i sent him to the holiday club which is attached to his school (mainstream) last holidays. This was only for a couple of mornings as they are expensive and i funded it out of his DLA money, he enjoys going and the staff meet his needs and it is also familiar surrounding for him as it is in his school.

I wanted direct payments so i could fund more days in the holidays as i have a 3yr old son who i need to take out as it is not fair on him to be stuck in the house all the time.

My social worker contacted me saying her manager was querying it as it was not a special needs holiday club and that they might not fund it now.

I am quite angry about this as my son has a routine there and is settled and for me to take him out of that environment and take him to another holiday club where he does'nt know anyone and which is across the other side of town (his current one is across the road from our house) just seems like a ridiculous idea.

They are meant to be helping parents not causing them more stress !!

Just wondered if anyone had any advice

i just thought id ask if its worth me filling out this dla form for him, i feel guilty and don twant it to look like im after the money but it would only help us to pay someone to watch him whilst i get the house owrk done, or (i know this sonds bad) but a small break for an hour or so for myself. or even trips/clubs for him to join etc
any advice i am very new and dozy, so please excuse me if ive done anything wrong here. i just dont really have anyone else

i am new and just registered here now. My son adam is 8 and he has always had issues at school from pre-school age onwards. We have tried a number of programmes to help him and nothing really has helped.

We are trying to get him assessed for autism as he shows many signs he is on iep, his academic levels show he is at level age 6 years for reading.
We had a review today for his iep and we had been in touch with CAHMS to get him refered for autism and after waiting 6 months to see them they said they cant refer him to be assessed for autism and that the ed. pyschologist has to do it or the school.
However the ed pych said today its not her job and the school hasnt referred him either .

We are so desperate i havent slept all week my head is thumping i wish i could just jump off a bridge with my son and this way everyone would be happy.
What should i do and where shall i go?
There is a place called kirklees autism outreach in dewsbury but i cant just go there with him it has to be referal.
Could anyone please advise i dont know how long i can carry on like this please

just an update on the battle we have been having for last 10 months regarding ss taking matthews respite away due to petty reasons.
after going over the unit managers head and going to the council i have now been told that the funding is in place for Matt to go to a private respite unit, they have places available and it sounds like they specialise in autism, by next week we should have visited the unit and be looking into starting the teatime visits. only argument that is still outstanding is whether we are expected to lose the 42 nights we should have had from May 09 to May 10 due to ss dragging their feet and trying to save money and not get the respite sorted, which would be annoying as they agreed we needed the respite and the stress of it has caused hubby to be signed off sick with severe depression and anxiety after working for 20yrs without being off sick.
at the moment we have been told we would be getting the full 42 nights and would need to discuss if we wanted weekends or weekdays, i said i cant see how you can fit in 2 yrs of respite into weekends only and thats when she started erm erm erming lol
took 8 weeks from first meeting with council officer to this point where it had taken 8 months and the threat of a second complaint before i saw him, only reason i saw him was complaints officer suggested i saw him before i put in the complaint.
so fingers crossed its good news as we should be getting respite soon and he has a holiday with college next month and 2 nights away with outreach in easter hols which he is looking forward to (activity hols) and will not have to deal with this until he reaches 18 in june next year lol
