Confused

At my sons last appointment with pediatrician and at his recent IEP review it was suggested that we try statementing him.

School tell me that I have a fight ahead of me because I pay council tax to Birmingham but the school is in Walsall. Apparently this means that he cannot see an educational psychologist from Walsall even though he has speech therapy, occupational therapy and a pediatrician through Walsall community health. School have said that although they can request for a Birmingham education psychologist it is unlikely to happen.

Can anyone share experiences of trying to work between to LEA's and give me advice as to what I should do to help school so that my son can have the support he needs to achieve his educational potential.

Fundraising

Hey everyone, I want to start fundraising for my little girl, we would like to get her a safe padded play area so she can roll around safely without hurting herself. At the moment she has a second hand ball pit (without the balls) from a bouncy castle company which is great - but it wont be long before she outgrows it. Does anyone have any advice? Having never done anything like this before, I am not sure where to start. Thought I might grab a few family members and do a 50 mile sponsored cycle ride? I know I can try charities for money, but feel like I want to do something for her myself. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks very much, Deanna x

Tax credits - overpayment and disability backdating

Hello again

Just wanted some advice before speaking to the tax credits people. I'll try and be concise!

We have been awarded backdated DLA to september 2009
We received the backdated Tax Credit disability element to June 2010
We have been trying to sort out tax credit backdating to september 2009

The complication is that we had overpayments made between April and June 2010. We have already made arrangements to pay that off and these started 2 weeks ago.

Today we were sent a letter which shows that they are taking all of the backdated tax credits and putting that towards the overpayment.

Can they do this?

can i refuse a diagnosis

hi all im quite new here so stick with me :-)

ok my question is can you refuse a diagnosis ?
my little girl is 7 and lives with autism , she is in a mainstream school and has 121 allday ,
however they are pushing for more school think she has ADHD and have refered her back to the paeds we have done the connors questionaire and the paeds agree ,however i dont ,she does have a problem with her attention span but not hyperactive ,granted this is not really my area of expertise but i am a nurse and care for children with ADHD a lot and i dont feel she fits it that box so to speak ,so can i refuse to have it put in her notes ?

also school wants her to have a statement and im not sure if i want that ,what are your thoughts ?

sorry for all the questions but its all quite new to me ,i buried my head in the sand for a long time before admitting there was a problem ,i just didnt want to face the fact that i had 2 children with extra needs

schools and feeding tubes

hey all,

i was wondering how your lil ones who are tube fed get on at school and if they go to mainstream or a special school??

i'm worried for when charlie starts school next year, because he has to have all his fluids through his tube and his meds throughout the day how they would deal with this?? and if other children would notice he was 'different'?

charlies at a special nursery at the min but he only does 2 mornings and i give him his fluids when he gets up before he goes at 9 and hes back for 12 so i give him more when he is back so no body sees him bein fed there but i just worry about when they do

i know im over reacting but i hate the not knowing

Any body out there got a young child with cerebella ataxia

Hi I have a 23 month ol who has been diagnosed with cerebella ataxia with retinal dystrophy and peripheral pigmentation. He is still undergoing various tests to find the cause and which type he has. He is getting worse so quickly. He can already not walk or speak. HELP!! It's devastating to see him like this. I just wondered if any one was in the same position and would like to chat.
