My son is just moving up to Secondary School with a Statement and i was wondering, do you need a Statement for College or do you get support without a Statement?

How long do you need a statement for?

Statements are not issued when considering further education.
A very useful link for you explaining your childs rights can be found on the direct gov website:

does your son have any 1:1 at school at the moment? if he needs it when he is 15/16 then you will need a meeting with the Lea which happens every year and includes connexions worker when he will reach 15 to help choose what college he wants to attend (or you want if he not able to make a choice) for example if you got 20 hours 1:1 but the school paid for the rest of the hours you might need to push the Lea to up it to 25 hrs as college would not pay for it as a rule.
if no extra support is needed then apart from the statement you get at school they wont change it unless you feel he needs more help while at college, he should still get a connexions worker at 15 to help him with the transition from school to college.

There comes a point in your life when you realize:Who matters,Who never did,Who won't anymore...And who always will..
So, don't worry about people from your past, there's a reason why they didn't make it to your future.
