Its not always easy to get a place, however when you're filling out your part of her statement of special educational needs, you are encouraged to name a school you would like your child to attend, and they do have to take your wishes in to account. I named the school, and then listed all the reasons why my son was unable to attend mainstream school (still in nappies, school gates not secure enough to contain him, afraid of large crowds/loud noises etc) It also took a letter to my MP as i was told there was a 2 year waiting list which meant Luca wouldnt be offered a place til he was almost 7. little one and behold after the letter to the MP a space was found extremely quickly!

I have just started the process of a statement for Matthew. He can't talk and has to use sign language he also has no social skills. When we started I was given the opposite option of putting him in special needs where i wanted him in a mainstream school. I understand mainstream isn't for everybody but i think more needs to be done for the parents that want their Children to go to a special school. It seems the more we push for things the more walls we hit. Good luck to you both xx
