Family Fund’s trustees wish to help families more fairly than now. Having a limited pot of money means that it is more important than ever before that the Fund helps families who are on the lowest of incomes. As an example the Fund has had fixed funding from England for more than 6 years, against an increasing number of applications year on year. We need to be sure that we are targeting our help to those families who are living on the lowest of incomes.

To explain in a little more detail, the Fund’s eligibility criteria took account only of earned income, as opposed to total income from whatever source, including benefits. Although created with the best of intentions, this rule effectively penalised some working families in favour of those whose income is solely from benefits and meant that the Fund was unable to help the poorest families with disabled children. We have been in the very unwelcome position of having to turn down working families earning even £23,100 (before tax) while helping those whose benefits may total £40,000 or more (as happens in several cases).

Changing the way we look at income may mean that some families who have previously been within the income criteria (because we did not count other money coming in) may now no longer be eligible as the money coming in is over our income limit. However, others will find that they may now be eligible for help.

There comes a point in your life when you realize:Who matters,Who never did,Who won't anymore...And who always will..
So, don't worry about people from your past, there's a reason why they didn't make it to your future.
