hey all

just want to ask if theres any others that use movicol for there Children
my son has very very bad constipation, he was hospitalised because of it , he was on lactulose and it was rubbish just used to bloat him

now hes on movicol, which is working from 2 sachets now to one sachet a day but the thing is hes not drinking much fluid , and hes been licking hes lips a lot and saying hes head hurts and he wants a drink.....

im worried as this medicine takes all the fluid doesnt it?

whats everyone elses thoughts ?

and we have tried the natural remedys and nothing works Huh

Sam is on movicol and I don't think it works particularly well. some days it makes him really loose and others it does absolutely nothing at all and there is no change to his diet as he is mostly tube fed. In the past we used lactulose with senna and that worked a little too well! i have found the best thing for Sam is just a small amount of prune juice which I usually just put into his gastrostomy tube. is your little one totally orally fed? I would try pushing lots of fruit in the diet to aid digestion. Sam is non verbal so I don't know if the movicol makes him feel bad or anything, but i suspect not as we can usually tell by his behaviour if something isn't right.

Hope you find something that works

lactulose it didnt work very well for my child but the incontinence nurse said to me that you have to be drinking plenty of fluids
for it to work which my daughter doesnt drink that much

but i found that movicol worked too well for her
the dr told me to give her 1 to 2 sachet a day
which i think that it was too much for her

ive dropped it down to as and when she needs it
by following the bristol stool chart
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bristol_Stool_Scale
as 4 on the chart should be as a normal poo

do you see a incontinence nurse
my daughter under one and i found them really usefull and they give you advice
you could do with seeing your doctor again if it isnt working corectly

worthyju- thank god you said that,my son has been on movical for months but it doesn't work for him very well.i mentioned that to his nurse and she said that he would be the only person not suited to it!
he also has to have senna sometimes as he is so backed up.
it doesn't seem to dehydrate him though.hope you get it sorted ambreen. Smile
