Hi Daniel, like some others unsure how this system works. we have a 7.5 year old little one with complex needs, cp,no verbal communication. wondered how it works and if it may be worth trying. she does not have the dexterity for signing though school does use some makaton. she is good at looking at things and knows what she likes or doesnt like, just cant express herself. she understands the use of big mac switch for passing on messages, working toys etc.and can eye point sometimes to choose what she wants -though very slowly. look forward to hearing from you.

PECS stands for Picture Exchange Communication System and is a very successful pictorial communication device which was created in America to help autistic children and adults gain a voice.
It can be used to help any adults and children who have no language communication skills to communicate their desires to both familiar and unfamiliar people.

The symbols can be either the ones listed here, or can be photographs of actual items such as a specific toy or brand of crisps. As long as the child recognises the symbol, the system can work.
The PECS symbols should be available around the local environment also; in both school and at home.
It can be very effective for many children as it allows them a way to communicate in a easier manor.

Hope this helps Smile
