Mencap Short breaks are they really getting better in your area? Mencap would really like your help to see if short breaks in your area are getting better for families with a child with profound and multiple learning disabilities. Your local council has been given an extra £2.221million in funding for this year, April 20...09 to March 2010 and the promise of even more in 2010/11 to provide additional short breaks for families like yours. Mencap has been campaigning for many years to get more money for short breaks. In 2003 we launched our Breaking Point campaign and you may have heard about this. You can read more at Mencap Or we can give you a copy. We now need to find out if all this extra money is meaning that families like yours are getting the breaks that stop them reaching breaking point. If you feel that you could help this would mean:In September or October talking with a member of Mencap staff to fill out a short survey about short breaks – this shouldn’t take any longer than 40 minutes What will Mencap do with this information? We will collect the anonymous information (no names will be used) from families across England and write a report to send to the government Ministers who are responsible for short breaks. We need them to see how the extra short breaks money is being spent this year so that they make the right decisions about 2010 and 2011. We will of course give you a copy of the report, which will be ready by January 2010. If you want to find out more or talk with someone from Mencap about this please contact Stuart Thompson 01206 382842. (This post was last modified: 10-30-2009 10:39 AM by Daniel.) |
