perhaps the paed is only used to schools that have about 30 Children to a class and maybe a couple of special needs within these, sounds like you have the perfect mainstream school as with that size of class she should settle in well and i do think if they are around speaking children they will pick it up easier. if the school does struggle they could then look into 1:1 some of the time to help the teacher corinne There comes a point in your life when you realize:Who matters,Who never did,Who won't anymore...And who always will.. So, don't worry about people from your past, there's a reason why they didn't make it to your future. |

i have to say i dont think pre school children bully each other at all. That all starts around year1 onwards. I have 4 children and my oldest is 14 he wasnt bullyed at primary at all the other children grew up with him and were very acepting of his differences. When he started high school the bulling started it was very sad to watch and he is now in a independent school for children with ASD and other difficulties. This is a much better choice for him and he now fits in with everyone else. My son tells me he wished he had always been at this school as he now feels like an equal instead of the odd boy out. My youngest child is almost 5 in reception class and again the other children are very acepting of her, but other adults are not. i do not mean school staff its parents and after school clubs from my experenices its adults that set the poor example and children just copy. its a real shame and i think some adults should look at the inocence of their children and learn from it.

Julie, Thanks for that Im delighted your son likes his new school. I would hate for Ó to feel like the odd one out, thats heartbreaking
There is a special needs school here but it has an awful stigma on it. I would hate to send her there. Im prepared to move anywhere she needs to go, so we will see what the future brings. Its true what you said about the adults being the problem, Children are naturally very accepting they just adopt the ideas of the adults around them.Corinne sorry I missed your reply, you are probably right about the paed and class sizes, I think the local school would be ideal for Ó especially since we know the SNA, she is actually my land lady lol. We only moved to this area a year ago, strange how things work out. (This post was last modified: 03-14-2010 06:11 PM by realtgeal.) Life's not about waiting for the storm to pass...It's about learning to dance in the rain. |

Hi, our little one (now 7.5years) was given a part time placement at the local special school-- this was great as she has profound needs and has had the best input from the start. As a result she has progressed more than was ever expected. the school is a very small one but has been great and she slowly had more sessions till she was school age and in all day. I feel there were many advantages for her getting the chance of input from school rather than a nursery place, and she has benefited from it

Hi my son is 3 (4 in november) so we are currently going thru all this,, when taylor started getting assesed last year i put him in his sisters mainstream nursery he had only been ther for 3 days when the nursery teacher pulled me aside and said she did not think he was ready for 5 aftrnoons a week, so as i had already looked into things and how they worked, i explained he was getting assesed and asked her for ther SENCO to see taylor,, she came and assesed taylor and aftr gathering info on him she sed she wud like him to go to special needs school but the waiting list was a year long so, he attended the mainstream for two aftrnoons a week wher they put into place inclusion support which is a one to one worker who i have to say was brill!! and he attended a full day at a daycare nursery (as all 3-4yr olds are entiltled to 15hrs education a week) also with one to one support, also i get direct payments frm social services for 12hours a week (only during school holidays)respite which i use the money to pay for taylor to have two aftrnoons in the daycare nursery he attends during term time, this give me sum time to spend with his sisters plus it also gives taylor routine and gets used to the school setting,, anyway taylor startd his new nursery on monday he gets picked up by the local authority transport with an escort and gets dropped bak off, and with only 3 children per class im hoping we shud see sum improvement in him soon :-)
