Announcement

Families who have children and young people with special needs very often deal with similar life styles. We have all had concerns ranging from education, acess to services, respite and other issues directly related to their childrens needs. Parents of disabled children bring families together for friendship, to share information and to support one another.

The forum was created by parents who have children with special needs and is run by parents so we are all in this together. With us you will realise you are not alone

Parents of disabled children launched in October 2009 and we are growing day by day and are fastly becoming a major support resource for all

I am very surprised that Shelter haven't rolled up their sleeves on your case.
Time to use the legal advice centres now. Look up clsdirect or a housing advice centre that has a chartermark and find a housing specialist in your area, Coventry law centre is a great resource and if you are not in their area they might know of someone who is.
The local authority has powers and funding available to assist your family in many different ways and someone needs to explain it to them in legal terms and also listing the penalties for not helping.

There comes a point in your life when you realize:Who matters,Who never did,Who won't anymore...And who always will..
So, don't worry about people from your past, there's a reason why they didn't make it to your future.

Times have changed......... homelessness covers unsuitable housing under 'reasonable to remain' and councils do have huge budgets to prevent homelessness as well. I hope you get someone fighting in your corner who knows their stuff Smile

We were in a similar situation to you and we have /are in the process of buying a new build house (3 beds but detatched and easily convertable to 4 beds) through Bloor. We have done Part exchange AND combined this with their 80/20 scheme. The council have been round and drawn up plans for a DFG bedroom and bathroom and as it comes in under budget they are giving us the other £8,000 to cover moving costs as we are in such a desperate situation.I hasten to add they have not done this before,we are the first family they have done this for but we have 6 children and three of them are disabled the smallest being quite complex in her needs.

hope this is some encouragement to you
