MOBILITY ALLOWANCE HELP
|

My daughter was awarded middle rate disability allowance, She has a diagnoses of ASD, DVD and Dyspraxia, and since she is turning 5 in August, the DWP has sent her mobility allowance forms, My daughter can walk unaided (just) but does need picking up alot etc. Due to being autistic she has no awareness of danger and DVD means she is unable to communicate. Does this fall under mobility allowance or is mobility allowance for people who have more difficulties walking and or/in wheelchairs? If someone has any advice i would be very appreiciative Many Thanks in advance to anyone that can help |

Hi
Mobility isnt just for people who physically cant or have trouble walking...I have a daughter who has gotten the higher rate since she was 3 and I have a son with ASD who is almost 3. I was sent a pack a while ago to apply for the mobility part for him but as you cant get the lower rate till age 5, I didnt bother as he wouldnt get higher rate. I was told by the benefit person who helped me fill his care form in that aged 5 I could apply for the mobility part as there is such a thing as refusal to walk, plus road safety etc. I would definately apply and hope to get the lower rate. Proud mum of 3...... Dani,13, amazing child....Sofie,11, my smiler, physically disabled, 3 strokes aged 2, speech issues, learning difficulties, epilepsy.... and Luke,2, diagnosed with autism January 2011, non-verbal cheeky chappy. |

i would go for it, but put all about your daughter on the form saying that she she has sense of danger, had to take ours to an appeal but finally have been given low rate.

Hi, we have been refused but are waiting to hear after sending in the second reconsideration letter!! Our little girl has no sense of danger and also due to her autism it manifests itself in frequent refusal episodes when she will drop to the floor and refuse to make any process during a meltdown, at these times we have to carry her. Everyday is so unpredictable for our little ones. I hope it all goes well for you. X
Things can be hard on occasions but well worth it!

X some times i people don't understand what it is like unless they have a child going through the same thing. hope that you hear something soon |
