Announcement

Families who have children and young people with special needs very often deal with similar life styles. We have all had concerns ranging from education, acess to services, respite and other issues directly related to their childrens needs. Parents of disabled children bring families together for friendship, to share information and to support one another.

The forum was created by parents who have children with special needs and is run by parents so we are all in this together. With us you will realise you are not alone

Parents of disabled children launched in October 2009 and we are growing day by day and are fastly becoming a major support resource for all

i have
Hana, it takes two to talk, think its the same one, are they doing video sessions with you, record how your getting on at different points through the course, its really good well worth doing, melissa speech came on so much doing this, its basicly owling - observe/wait/listen, you let your child take the lead, wait for responces (could be throwing there hands up in the air) you would add word to it

like
your both building a tower, it falls (instead of you jumping in saying "oh the towers fallen down") wait for your child to respond like making a noise, throwing there hands up, looking shocked, screaming, then you respond like "fall down" you can say this really expressive with your voice (tend to hold your childs interest in what your saying), as you go on you can add words like "tower fall down"

also say your bilding a tower instead of talking through it (which wont hold your childs interest) like " oh look, let bulid a tower together, it will be a really big tower, how many bricks do you think we can do?, what colour are the bricks? do you think it will fall down soon?" you really need to cut language back like "big tower"

it also says about playnig like a child with your child like if your playing kitchen,if you child put a pan on his head, dont jump in saying "no, thats not what you do, the pan goes on the hob" put a pan on your head, you can be silly together, if he doesnt talk at all, you can easily respond to the noises he makes

playing at eye level also helps with language

wont waffel on too much but im sure its the same course, if you want any more info let me know, i still have some work sheets i could post them up if you like might give a better idea than me waffling lol

Sounds like a useful course for many!
What is the cost of the course? Is it a private course?

Ive come across the books for the course and thats quite expensive on its own.
