Announcement

Families who have children and young people with special needs very often deal with similar life styles. We have all had concerns ranging from education, acess to services, respite and other issues directly related to their childrens needs. Parents of disabled children bring families together for friendship, to share information and to support one another.

The forum was created by parents who have children with special needs and is run by parents so we are all in this together. With us you will realise you are not alone

Parents of disabled children launched in October 2009 and we are growing day by day and are fastly becoming a major support resource for all

We have a five year old son with spina bifida and hydrocepalus who is in a wheelchair,up until 15months ago we lived in a four storey house we got fed up of waiting for a suitable house to come along so we did a housing association exchange to the country,we moved to a three bed house even though we need 4 beds as there is room for extension etc..anyway after a year of waiting we actually got our house assessed and it is as they call it fit for a house for life for our son(the actual ot that had our case prevoiusly had ..put our file on hold and forgot about us)any way we got new social services ot who is brilliant and has put the wheels in motion for an extension..that being bedroom and bathroom for our son...one problem now have neighbours from hell..they have german shepherd dog who is constantly in their garden barking if my four children in garden ..its jumped fence and got my little dog too..they say its a soppy dog..but when u are a little kid or even me you feel it intimidating..anyway we put up screening so it couldnt see into our garden and it keeps ripping it down so every day my husband is out there fixing it ,last time he did it my neighbours new boyfriend threated my husband saying if he antagonised his girlfriend again he would get him with a baseball bat..we called police and housing manager asking for help..the house association wont put up fence to protect my family saying they cant afford it we on benefits so not much money.we just feel so uncomfortable in own home..its not fair we done nothing wrong we are law abiding parents just trying the best for our family

you think you find the right house for your son to make his life easier then you have terrible neighbours..just dont know what to do

hi there that is wrong if your children cant go in to the garden because of the dog i had the same sortof problem with my old neighbours but they was always shouting about making a right noise and i got the health visitor to help with it and then we went to the council not the housing association because they would not do anything either hope it helps with the problem

even though your housing association has to manage your tenancy responsibly (taking reasonable care to ensure your well-being etc) this sounds like antisocial behaviour and should be dealt with, or at least seen to by the council. Your housing officer should have told you this straight away Sad
Look at your local authority website index under neighbour nuissance or antisocial behaviour and get the wheels in motion making your reports........ there are many laws to protect you and your family from living like this.
If all else fails you can quote that the landlord has failed to act after recieving reports and is therefor allowing the 'quiet enjoyment' of your tenancy to be lost and that you respectfully ask for the intervention of the tenancy relations officer from the council Smile

chin up, it will get sorted.

I too have horrific neighbours, mine smoke weed outside their house (next to my drive) shout and swear at the tops of their voices at all hours, let their dogs roam the streets, and basically use it as a doss house.
I mentioned it in passing to my social worker, who rang me later that evening to tell me she had a duty to report it, and had informed their social worker. This person then rang me and did a telephone interview about them, which she assured me would remain anonymous.
I'm still waiting to see what gets sorted, and am praying that there is no comeback for me, but I couldn't hack it much longer!
Its so unfair, and you certainly need to make a start at getting it reported, especially if they have resorted to nasty threats.

i had probs with neighbour who played music v loud and thought cause his house was private (owned by mum) he could do what he wanted, i had a noise recorder borrowed and turned it on everytime his music played, when they listened back to it they couldnt believe how loud it was and a letter was sent to the lad and he was told it was is first warning and if they had one more complaint they could confiscate his equipment and fine him Big Grin it worked he kept it down and his mum sold the house not long after so if they dont even own their house the landlord has a responsibility to control their tenants, they should insist that if the tenants have a dog they should put up a fence to keep the dog under control, you could also give rspca a call to come out and check as there must be a reason the dog is eating the screening, also inform the police and keep a record that you have been threatened as i doubt it is the first time he has done this

There comes a point in your life when you realize:Who matters,Who never did,Who won't anymore...And who always will..
So, don't worry about people from your past, there's a reason why they didn't make it to your future.
