Announcement

Families who have children and young people with special needs very often deal with similar life styles. We have all had concerns ranging from education, acess to services, respite and other issues directly related to their childrens needs. Parents of disabled children bring families together for friendship, to share information and to support one another.

The forum was created by parents who have children with special needs and is run by parents so we are all in this together. With us you will realise you are not alone

Parents of disabled children launched in October 2009 and we are growing day by day and are fastly becoming a major support resource for all

Hi,

Am new here so i hope i am doing this right!!

I am mum to 4 children christopher 15 he is diabetic Joe 13 he has a rare chromosone abnormality associated with microcephaly kate 12 and Rosie 3,

Joe has had 4 rare broken bones in the last 5 yrs 3 of which have resulted in surgery and 2 of these being on the joint of the knees, the latest being in March this year, since then i have slept downstairs with him he was originally on a sofa bed in the dining room we have since been loaned a hospital bed for him, i slept on the sofa in the living room till a couple of weeks ago an now have a bed in here,
We have an OT's assisant an back in march she said our stairs were not suitable for a stairlift yet we have a straight staircase she has also now referred us for a level access shower this all happened last week when she turned round and said oh yes your staircase is perfect!!!
My problem:
our downstairs is not that big an even tho we have 2 rooms down here its not good for joe we cant fit much else in here other than our sofas so joe keeps bumping into them and they are not that big he is squashed in the dining room he still soils on occasions so if he was upstairs with the use of a stairlift we wud have to bring him downstairs all thro the house to get to the bathroom as this is downstairs i hope you dont think am being ungrateful in anyway as am not but ur house is so divided at the moment we are on property pool this is where you bid for propeties we have been put on medium priorty and when i asked why she said our situation wasnt urgent enough at the moment our shower is over the bath its is not safe to put joe in the bath in case of slipping so the shower isn't an option i explain to them that we cannot attend to joes personal needs properly but she just smirked and walked away we contacted our MP who has written to our housing association asking f they could provide better housing for us that was a couple of weeks ago and we are still waiting for a reply, am sorry this has been so long but i need to 'get this off my chest' and hope that you will understand

thanks

Vicky

Hi Vicky, whereabouts are you? Every housing association and council housing department have policies they must stick to and there are laws governing what is 'reasonable' in a housing situation... it may be that you just need to be put in touch with the right person to fight your case in your area Smile

That's handy Vicky, you have a great choice of very experienced people there to halp you through this problem.

http://www.liverpooladvicealliance.org/ these will have a good chat with you and explain what can be done

http://www.liverpoolcab.org/ the ONLY CAB I would recommend for housig matters, they employ specialists and you will need an appointment.

http://www.imerseyside.co.uk/profile/261...on-Centre/ Croxteth advice centre is one of the best and they have legal support from a very experienced solicitor and barrister should that become necessary.

Liverpool City Council also has a housing advice service, they used to be based in town but I believe they now work from one-stop-shops and you need to have an appointment but they have an excellent reputation and will get stuck in to your case as soon as possible.

I do hope that helps, please let us know how you get on.... and of course stick around here and join in the other threads too Smile
