Parents of disabled children bring families together for friendship, to share information and to support one another.

The forum was created by parents who have children with special needs and is run by parents so we are all in this together. With us you will realise you are not alone

Parents of disabled children launched in October 2009 and we are growing day by day and are fastly becoming a major support resource for all

i think its mouthing and unfortuately is common, matt is cardboard hehe, the one advantage is it helps clean his teeth hehe, like dellym has suggested a chew tube is a good idea if you clip it to his top as he probably chews his tops because they are the one thing that is always there and its in easy reach, the more you chew the more saliva you produce so that might be why he is dribbling as he isnt swallowing it (prob because it tastes of fabric Big Grin)
just realised i am chewing an ice lolly stick whilst writing this so going put it in the bin Blush

There comes a point in your life when you realize:Who matters,Who never did,Who won't anymore...And who always will..
So, don't worry about people from your past, there's a reason why they didn't make it to your future.

My 4 year old does this and I wondered whether it was a developmental thing.

He is developmentally delayed and was tube fed as a baby.

A few months back he suddenly started licking everything, particulary the backs of my hands and my clothing.
He chews his own clothing, if he is wearing a t-shirt he will chew his trouser leg.

So I was wondering if he skipped out on the oral phase as a baby, is he making up for it now?

Just joined and read this thread. Bit late but never mind! My daughter went through a bad mouthing stage from about 3-4 yrs. We made her a box of things she could chew safely, would clean easily and had different textures like baby teethers and plastic bricks. Eventually she just stopped doing it. She still chews her tops sometimes and sucks her pyjamas at night but nothing like as bad.

most Children seem to go through this both our boys did this, there cuffs and collars got it all the time, they would still tend to do it even at there age now, there is nothing I was able to do to stop it just had to regularly buy clothes all the time.
