Announcement

Families who have children and young people with special needs very often deal with similar life styles. We have all had concerns ranging from education, acess to services, respite and other issues directly related to their childrens needs. Parents of disabled children bring families together for friendship, to share information and to support one another.

The forum was created by parents who have children with special needs and is run by parents so we are all in this together. With us you will realise you are not alone

Parents of disabled children launched in October 2009 and we are growing day by day and are fastly becoming a major support resource for all

I am still awaiting my assesmetn, but daniel i have taken a leaf out of your book and i'm phoning them constantly, for the last week i have been told it's on the managers desk awaiting allocation. Am phoning again tomo as didn;t get my promised phone call again!

With regards to the talk about rates, i currently work for a nursing company, i am trained in tracheostomies, gastro buttons and medication and i am currently on £19 p/h for working in the community doing waking night car. I was quite shiocked at how low the dp rates are as i was expecting it to be around or higer than what i'm on!

Hi Louise,
Today phone them twice a day demanding to speak with the manager.
Then if he dont call back today make it 3 times a day tommorow and step it up by one more call per day.
Make sure your name is remembered and not forgotten.
Even if that does mean phoning 40 times a day which it took me the other week Blush

Daniel, you dont get if you dont ask if you feel short changed then ask for more! tell them that you feel you would benefit from more night care, daycare whatever before it goes to panel rather after panel. you have nothing to lose. if you are coping they will leave you to cope, but you shouldnt have to just cope. you also have needs outside being a parent and those needs should be met! you are the one spurring us all on you deserve the same good luck!

I never thought it would happen to me.

she advised us to see what we get and if its not enough, stick with it for a month or 2 then she'd reapply again for more. shes going to look into the carers grant for us too so i can learn to drive Smile she was really nice and seemed very willing to help which is good
