Families who have children and young people with special needs very often deal with similar life styles. We have all had concerns ranging from education, acess to services, respite and other issues directly related to their childrens needs. Parents of disabled children bring families together for friendship, to share information and to support one another.

The forum was created by parents who have children with special needs and is run by parents so we are all in this together. With us you will realise you are not alone

Parents of disabled children launched in October 2009 and we are growing day by day and are fastly becoming a major support resource for all

Desperate for Physio appt - falling over!!
cheapsensorytoys
This weekend Jack has fallen over 4 times - is now sporting a purple bruise on his forehead and a bump on the back of his head!! It's been upsetting for us as we are still waiting for a physio appt due to his mobility problems. We've had great support with Portage and language and speech therapy but it seems that everyone is concentrating on Jacks communication when our concerns lie more with his mobility. We are thinking now that because he can walk around unaided the 'specialists' don't see how concerned we are that he still falls over so much because he can't sit down or stand up by himself.

Jack's Portage lady comes here on 13 April and I'm going to have to strongly express my concerns about his mobility problems but does anyone know of a quicker way to get physio for our children? It was 8 months ago now that we first saw a Physio who told us that the waiting list for regular sessions would be about 6 months. Is private physio expensive?

it must depend on what system the hospital uses? all my sons speech, ot, physio are in the same building and they work together as a team. does your son have regular appts with a consultant? maybe you could use that route? just dont take no for an answer! good luck

I never thought it would happen to me.

Private physio costs around £40 per hour (or it did when I looked!)
I would definetely as your health visitor or consultant or GP for a refferal.
