Families who have children and young people with special needs very often deal with similar life styles. We have all had concerns ranging from education, acess to services, respite and other issues directly related to their childrens needs. Parents of disabled children bring families together for friendship, to share information and to support one another.

The forum was created by parents who have children with special needs and is run by parents so we are all in this together. With us you will realise you are not alone

Parents of disabled children launched in October 2009 and we are growing day by day and are fastly becoming a major support resource for all

hi had good news tday just been given 28 overnights at local respite centre. Alex needs were assessed he has fit the criteria and will be introduced to the staff slowly by having tea time visits 3 till 7pm. i kept telling myself that i am happy for him to go overnight and joking about what were going to do with the time? then when they told me Alex had a place i burst into tears again just cant seem to control my emotions at the moment X

I never thought it would happen to me.

Hun that's fab news, its hard to accept you need the help I think at first but like chrissie said, you'll adjust and find things to enjoy in your time, it'll probably be easier once you've had a few teatime visits and see how he is, once he's happy I'm sure you'll be Smile well done you on getting the respite though and I hope things go well for you Smile xx

Hey - my daughter started respite at quite a young age and it is hard to let go even for a few hours. I can remember crying my eyes out all the way home the first time she stayed.

My daughter is also Gastro fed and we did have months of NG tubes - if you ever need to chat I would be more than happy xxx

I have two children that go to respite. When they first started going i was so anxious and worried that i did'nt relax. So much so that it seemed like a waste of time! Then i went through an even longer phase of trying to cram a million things into the 24 hours they were gone....knackering myself! And now a few years down the line, i am almost like a regular person!

Hang in there chuckie x
