Announcement

Families who have children and young people with special needs very often deal with similar life styles. We have all had concerns ranging from education, acess to services, respite and other issues directly related to their childrens needs. Parents of disabled children bring families together for friendship, to share information and to support one another.

The forum was created by parents who have children with special needs and is run by parents so we are all in this together. With us you will realise you are not alone

Parents of disabled children launched in October 2009 and we are growing day by day and are fastly becoming a major support resource for all

Having a disabled child or child with special needs how has it affected your life?
cheapsensorytoys
An intresting discussion to be had here i think and hopefully open up some good debate and give us some good view points.
Since your childs diagnosis how has it affected your life?
Some ideas possibly include:
  • Has your relationship suffered or are you and your partner no longer together because of the diagnosis?
  • Has your relationship improved since the diagnosis and has it made you stronger?
  • Has it affected your previous freindships with freinds?
  • Has it affected your social life?
  • Are you a stronger or weaker person now?
  • Has it changed your personality?
  • How has the diagnosis changed your life path?

The above are just some possible ideas on how things maybe now.
What would you say has been affected?
Look forward to your thoughts and views....

When we got the diagnosis of finding out that I have a 9q deletion has made me feel weak because they dont offer counselling on how you feel, but i am me at the end of the day.
our relationship as a married couple can be strained on time with the daily stresses of looking after Children with complex needs.

when chatting to other people you find your not alone and with that you can build on it.
there must be something there between us as a couple if we are still together after all we have been through.

If there is communication between 2 people i think thats enough to get you on a even keel, and also i think we have to tell each other how we feel.

whats affected in our relationship is the sex life and thats one word i hate right now even though we are exhausted. we have to make time for it, i used to love my sex life haha.
as a whole over the years i become a stronger person i think
and another thing i havent got much friends.
following the diagnosis we are both on anti depressants and both have our ups and downs. but we love each other.
