Announcement

Families who have children and young people with special needs very often deal with similar life styles. We have all had concerns ranging from education, acess to services, respite and other issues directly related to their childrens needs. Parents of disabled children bring families together for friendship, to share information and to support one another.

The forum was created by parents who have children with special needs and is run by parents so we are all in this together. With us you will realise you are not alone

Parents of disabled children launched in October 2009 and we are growing day by day and are fastly becoming a major support resource for all

Has anyone applied for a grant via Motobility for a WAV, if so did you get what you wanted or only what they wanted you to have- I'd like a more stylish people carrier and wondered if that was just a dream.
Does anyone know of other charitys that are accomadating?Undecided

I know my friend got a lot of help from SSAFA as he was a soldier before becomming disabled. They helped him get the money from several sources and he got a 3 year old Mercedes sprinter on an HP agreement and he only uses some of his DLA mobility money to make payments.
SSAFA will help if anyone in the family has served in the armed forces in a paid capacity at any time, it doesnt have to be the disabled person.

Hello ellyhop have your child had an assessment for them to see if a WAV is suitable or would a SPV be better for your child. SPV means standard production vehicle with adaptations, we are in this process now, our son is having a remote control adapted seat that will eventually turn back into an adult seat, a wav wasnt suitable for him to sit in his wheelchair all day we got this seat as he can lower right down to the ground and push himself onto the seat hes also getting a careva harness which by law means he doesnt need a booster seat with this i have checked iwth Think drivesave and asked lots of questions. Also we are getting a wheelchair hoist as his wheelchair is getting toooo heavy for me. The motability are paying for the adaptations all of them we are getting a ford galaxy 7 seater but we will loose 2 seats cos of the specialised chair and hoist where it is situated so we have a 5/6 seater car. Also we applied to the grants department and they have3 granted us £1,620, with a compulsory contribution of £380. towards the cost of the car. I cant lift our son into the car anymore as i have ill health also the galaxy for me as an automatic is only £1,500 which tghe offer is brilliant look into this further if you need anymore help please buzz me and i will guide you through it what you need to look for exty who to contact numbers e3tc i hope this helps for now. good luck xxx
