Announcement

Families who have children and young people with special needs very often deal with similar life styles. We have all had concerns ranging from education, acess to services, respite and other issues directly related to their childrens needs. Parents of disabled children bring families together for friendship, to share information and to support one another.

The forum was created by parents who have children with special needs and is run by parents so we are all in this together. With us you will realise you are not alone

Parents of disabled children launched in October 2009 and we are growing day by day and are fastly becoming a major support resource for all

Hello Kim

Check the motability website out and they can help you with either a wav car wheelchair accessible vehicle or an spv standard production vehicle with adaptations, adaptations are paid for my motability also go for the car that is most suitable for your families needs any lift hoists or remote control seat that comes out of the car so child can get on seat better, or with a wheelchair base to take child in or out to car. The financial side deposit ask motability for help towards this, our deposit came to £2,000. and this was paid for by motability all we have to put towards is the voluntary contribution of £380 this goes on your income, if you still dispute this amount you can appeal but you cant order your car till this has been sorted. Theres a tag that is on her about the routine of going for a motability car . Go for an MPV. Our next car is due september long waited, weve gone for a galaxy ford titanum automatic, + adaptations + wheelchair lift hoist.

If you need anymore information just ask. good luck. xxx

Also we too are still waiting for an OT to visit to do an assessment for a downstairs wetroom for our daughter ... seems endless waiting! She is 11 and has cerebellar hypoplasia, severe learning difficulties/global developmental delay and autistic traits. We also have two younger daughters, hence the need for a large car with 3 rows of seats!

Hi Kim
I received a grant from Motability a few years ago for a wheelchair hoist. They also provide grants towards a car. You first have to establish your need for the vehicle/equipment - I would suggest you visit one of the Independent Living Centres for an assessment by one of their OT's. I had an assessment done for my son -it cost £30 and was very detailed. I then submitted this with my grant application to Motability.
Good luck with your search.
