Hi, all. I am trying to find out what help i can get to help me get robbie, age 6 c.p, in and out of house, we have a shared driveway, since having robbies room done we have lost the back door to our house, we have to use patio door as our main door, no problam, needs must and all that, but the thing is that the patio door is 12inch plus high from the ground, basically i will have to try and push robbie down shared drive, which is very uneven and broken concerete all were we have had his room built and it now fills up and holds rain water which we will have to wade through, then turning onto the old lawn which is just uneven mud path from the room being done for robs then theres a bit of concerete with at least a 13inch step up into house. Iam not expecting any help but i thought they would help with it, they came out this morning and said they will (if approved by panal) help to concerete a ramp up to door, yes iam greatful but i showed the lady, the way we have to get round back of house,(shared drive, us making our side worse from adaptation,) i shown her the ruts and uneven bits i will have to get over turning corner onto old lawn naw mud and rubble on to concerete square bit to the step into house. also that it fills with water and i will have to push him through that , but they wont help with a path leading upto ramp, well what chuffin good is that, robbie is a big lad and his chair is not a powered chair, he drops his head this way that way and cant do anything to help, at moment i have to carry robs round to car, then carry wheelchair round into boot of car then go back to get other two and lock up , as you can imagine we are late most days for school, when returning to house i can either take robbie first to back door, lay him on floor whilst i go and get wheelchair, to sit him in in the house(he only got that chair) to be honist i find it easier to not leave house, yes again i am moaning, but iam fed up.anyway thats me done. lol |

We have the same thing, shared drive all mashed up, no lawn now etc. luckily we have another entrance but we have to walk thre streets to get to it! Council couldnt help because its shared access :-( Mum to 3 gorgeous girls Bethany (12), Amyrose (8) and Chloe (4). Chloe has Septo-Optic Displaysia, Bilateral Schizencephaly, Microcephaly, Lissencephaly, Spina Bifida Occulta, Global Developmetal Delay and Epilepsy. But has a smile that can light up the grumpiest persons day! |

If your front door opens onto the shared drive they wouldn't be able to put a ramp in front of it would they? We were told shared drive was to enable us to get car to back of house (though I put a fence to far down and a car won't fit now lol) but with a ramp would a car fit? Can they turn front lawn into a driveway? Also, who did the extension? They should have left the shared drive in condition it was in beforehand and when they did the inspection this should have been noted ( I am council house so don't know if different where you are)
There comes a point in your life when you realize:Who matters,Who never did,Who won't anymore...And who always will.. So, don't worry about people from your past, there's a reason why they didn't make it to your future. |

It is difficult to advise without seeing the situation but I would say that it doesn't seem appropriate to offer you a ramp but not a safe way to get on the ramp. I agree with Corrine - who ever did the extension should have left the shared driveway in the same condition as before. It could be that the funding won't cover the shared driveway. It is your house or housing association? If it is housing association they may be able to help. Ask for the lady to put in writing the reasons why they can't help with the access. Surely this should have been all part of the adaptation. Don't give up at the first hurdle. Good luck.
