Announcement

Families who have children and young people with special needs very often deal with similar life styles. We have all had concerns ranging from education, acess to services, respite and other issues directly related to their childrens needs. Parents of disabled children bring families together for friendship, to share information and to support one another.

The forum was created by parents who have children with special needs and is run by parents so we are all in this together. With us you will realise you are not alone

Parents of disabled children launched in October 2009 and we are growing day by day and are fastly becoming a major support resource for all

reece just hasnt fallen asleep yet, but is in bed. but hes bouncing and keeps banging his feet. he finds it hard to keep still, ive been in a few time to tickle his back (not tickle as such a light tracing of my nails) which has calmed him and he showed me his happy smile and eve asked if mum was happy, i said yes reece always when im with you.

his older brother got a ps3 for christmas but you can guess how much he has had chance to play on it, 3 times up to now. all the other times its been reece playing indiana jones lego game with my help.so i bought reece a preowned ps2 with some easy games. well he was very happy and showed it, lots of pointing to his face and him saying 'look my happy face'. he did his dancing he does when he gets so excited. and all the hand flapping while we set it up. he said he loved me and it was 'the best ever, and all of that'. he played great on it but totally freaked out if alex came to look, and dale got to play on his own console. i however had to help alex jump off a chair for about an hour and we played catch with a pack of sponges.

It would be great to get some tips for members and see how it works.

The first part of the Sleep Modification Therapy is a List

1)Discuss with partner- Agree
2)Inform Neighbours
3)Decide on bedtime and waking time
4)How long to leave him /her to cry i.e: 3 or 5 minutes
5)Agree on phrase to say i.e: "Its night time darling ,love you"
6)On entering room :NO SOCIAL CONTACT
NO SMILING
NO EYE CONTACT
7)Continue same pattern throughout the night

-They say you should put baby/child to sleep in cot/bed when awake
-When they begin to cry leave them for the amount of time decided before going in
-When going in to room you can pat/rub tummy while saying your phrase then leave
-If they are still crying when you have left, wait the same amount of time before going into the room again and repeating
-If your child is asleep before you leave ,when they wake up next do not go straight in wait the amount of time agreed and repeat your phrase.

I was told the first week will be the hardest and to be prepared for little sleep but if you stick at it within 2 weeks you will notice an improvement.Fight
I have found it really hard but last night my son slept from midnight till 7amBig Grin which is something he has never done before.Although this may not suit everyones situation hopefully it can work for a some.I was also told it works better if you do not sleep in the same room if you do if its possible sleep in another room for 2 weeks thats no an option for me.GOOD lUCK

my dd doesnt respond to 'it's bed time' but she is on her way to bed when we say 'its time for bed'. alex has been loads better, and reece has been not so bad over the hoildays, but he cant drop off until 12 - 1 am. when hes at school he falls to sleep 9 - 11 pm but waes through the night or early morning.
