Parents of disabled children bring families together for friendship, to share information and to support one another.

The forum was created by parents who have children with special needs and is run by parents so we are all in this together. With us you will realise you are not alone

Parents of disabled children launched in October 2009 and we are growing day by day and are fastly becoming a major support resource for all

Volunatry work in special schools
cheapsensorytoys
I wondered if anyone would be able to give me any advice, im currently studying with the Open Uni towards a BSc (honours) in psychology and am thinking of starting a couple of days a week voluntary work in a special school as this is the sort of thing i would like to do (im hoping then to go on and do a masters in childhood and youth, although that doesnt neccesarily mean im doing it, its just a hope at the mo) but what i did want to know is if anyone knows how i would go about volunteering in a special school? I know i would need a police check but that doesnt bother me as i have nothing to hide lol. But because my autistic daughter is in mainstream at the moment i dont have a certain school that i can go into and ask what i would need to do. I hope someone can give me some advice as to how i would go abouts it. Thanks in advance

Hiya Smile I've no experience in this exact field but when I was doing placements at college we just contacted the placement direct an asked if they too students and had any spaces, we had to fill out forms etc but I already had crb checking through the college. Find somewhere you'd like to try and just phone and ask Smile no harm in asking

I started in my sons school monday, although its mainstream after the term i will be working with 2 children with SEN.
I have spoke to SEN schools before starting, normally they send of for CRB then you can start although some SEN schools ask you to nip in for a chat 1st.
