Announcement

Families who have children and young people with special needs very often deal with similar life styles. We have all had concerns ranging from education,acess to services,respite and other issues directly related to their childrens needs. Parents of disabled children bring families together for friendship, to share information and to support one another.

The forum was created by parents who have children with special needs and is run by parents so we are all in this together. With us you will realise you are not alone

Parents of disabled children launched in October 2009 and we are growing day by day and are fastly becoming a major support resource for all

hi all,
not sure if this is the right place to put this if it isnt would you kindly move it lol,
well i wondered if some of you could put your best experiences with regards to services groups etc here and maybe some links, add your findings ? who has helped you the most, what has been the most beneficial etc.
ours before we moved was our OT, she gave us invaluable advice and pointed me to lots of local groups etc, unfortunately we still have to meet anyone in the OT department as yet here ( been here 4 months Confused)
another great help to us was Megan Baker House, it is a charity based group that base their workshops on the Peto institute way of conductive education,
they have weekly sessions for children and adults with all manner of complications, CP, Dyspraxia, Parkinsons, head injuries etc they also run week long block placements for those of you that cannot travel weekly, they are based in Herefordshire and we were so lucky to be able to travel weekly for the Dyspraxia sessions, They will even intervene and talk on your behalf at education meetings etc and what is even better is that its free !

I can only mention this site as a source of help and support. Hearing other families talk about how they deal with situations, how their special children bring so much to their lives is an inspiration and I am really glad I stumbled upon PoDC Smile
I know you are asking for other sites, my links are;
direct.gov, theyworkforyou,nethow and nacab .and always remember to google words and phrases but be careful what information you share with new sites49
