Announcement

Families who have children and young people with special needs very often deal with similar life styles. We have all had concerns ranging from education,acess to services,respite and other issues directly related to their childrens needs. Parents of disabled children bring families together for friendship, to share information and to support one another.

The forum was created by parents who have children with special needs and is run by parents so we are all in this together. With us you will realise you are not alone

Parents of disabled children launched in October 2009 and we are growing day by day and are fastly becoming a major support resource for all

You could start with finding the local voluntary service orgainsation, it's usually linked on your council website.
If the support group is for a specific area of need then find a national charity or organisation linked closely with what you want and contact them for advice and help.
You may find that there's other organised groups closer than you think!
What area of the UK are you in and what sort of group are you looking to set up?
You can also tell me to bog off, I'm a nosey so and so :o)

It will be in Dunstable, Bedfordshire I no where I'd be able to hold the group it's just setting it up. I want to set up a group for parents with disabled children so were there to support one another I feel as though I need that at the moment as none of my friends have disabled children. I have a friend in Essex and her support group go on days out, holidays etc then one night the mums will go out then the dads will go out thats the sort of thing I need

Just a quick rummage on the net brought this page;

http://www.cylex-uk.co.uk/dunstable/charities.html

and that led to;

NCH are usually very helpful and have links with Barnardos, local authority and voluntary sector organisations. They may well be able to put you in touch with a funding source or at the very least another group that has been set up who could take you through the steps you need to take Smile
There's and NCH office in Dunstable, they may be a good starting point as they have links in both voluntary and private sector, see if you can chat to one of their team and hopefully they'll point you in the right direction................. dont try and do it alone!
