Eeeeek.. Anyone have an idea on what diagnosis etc my son may link too? A few sites have key pointers what link to autism.. but theres still a few points on autism symptoms what dont even come close to my child...? (Im jus trying to gather some inf for when i do see my paed next as im going to push for a diagnosis now.. i need to!!) About my Sam.. Samuel turned 5 in January (2010).. & Should be in reception however school felt the need to hold him back a year so he is currently in full time nursery and requires a 121 support worker at all times. So far we have been told sam has the following (but still yet to get a proper diagnosis): -Severe global debelopment delays -Severe speach & language delays -Severe learning difficulties -Servere behavioural problems -Glue ear -Traces of sleep apneoa (UAO) -Heart Murmor -Hole in heart -Flat feet (Insoles have been provided) Well basicly, Sam was born at 34weeks.. and got neonatal meningitus at a few days old (and luckily survived), He has always been delayed in each mile stone..(Sat unaided at 10months, Crawled at 18months, Walked at 2years, Still yet to speak in sentences, Still yet to be fully potty trained as hes still in pull ups during the night). -Sam often gets frustrated as others cant understand hes needs/wants as hes communication and speach aint great. (He can talk but what he does say isnt always clear, and he cant talk in sentences.. just about 4words max at a time). -He cant always explain what he wants/needs. -Is speach delayed and doesnt follow instructions/directions. -Seems to hear somethings, but not others (This may be linked to hes glue ear, and sometimes requires us needing to shout for him to be able to acknowledge someone needs hes attention). -He has a very short attention span and flits from 1 thing to another. -Doesnt understand dangers around him and doesnt realy understand pain. -He constantly chews things. -Often throws tantrums. -Is hypoactive and un cooperative. -Cant play appropiatly with toys and tends to throw/chew them often. -Tends to be in a world of hes own. -Prefers to play alone and find its hard to join in with others. -He cant run properly (hes knees dont seem to bend properly when he does attempt to run) -He tends to crawl upstairs rather than walk.. -Samuel can only count to 5, (10 if he has help) -He doesnt know hes colours (only red which he recently learnt). -You have to show him how to do things several times before he grasps what he is required to do. -He never listens and cant follow simple tasks. -Doesnt know how to write or read (Even hes name) -He is toilet trained throughout the day but needs constant reminders on going to the toilet r he will wet hes trousers. -He is still in pull up pants throughout the night and tends to smear hes dirt. -Knows how to undress hes self, but cant grasp how to put trousers on. -Doesnt know how to use knife and fork and tends to finger feed. -Gets very frustrated over simple things. -Requires a clean spoon/fork with alot of things (he may have 2yoghurts and ask for a clean spoon after 1st pot has gone) -Doesnt know how to ride a bike (even with stabilizers) -Finds it hard to climb (unless it has steps he can crawl up) -Needs alot of encouragement when out as he often crys to be carried (but were unsure if hes in pain etc as hes communication skills aint very good). -Always trys to hit/bite to hurt others. -Very very clumbsy!!! Hmm i could possibly go on but im sure my post is almighty long now and ims ure ive made a clear view on what my lil man is & isnt capable off? Any advice etc would be great.. Unsure what im actualy wanting peple to say.. Just lil stressed out on not having a diagnosis etc.. Sorry!! Lea Also.. as i say he doesnt understand dangers.. (He has tried to run out infront of moving vehicles.. and just potters around in hes own little world and is oblivious to the on goings around him. One time at the park he ran streight infront of a child on a swing & i shouted him countless amount of times and he never knew.. Luckily the child's parent held her swing back to stp it from smacking sam. & when i appolgised to this parent sam looked as if to say 'whats wrong'?) hi lea
i would suggest writting that list down and taking it with you. There is alot that would point towards ASD but i suppose they might want to rule out any sort of medical diagnosis because of the meningitis maybe keep strong tho, its hard not having a diagnosis, have they done any sort of genetics testing to try and find a cause? i know you mentioned about the sleep apnea testing before but what other sorts of things have they done to look into it??I defo think you should ask them to assess him as possibly autistic but i would ask them that if they dont think its that that what DO they think it is....and if they say 'he's a mystery' then i would ask them what they PLAN to do to find a cause!! whens your next appointment?? hope you get some answers soon xx |

Im not to sure to be honest..
Last appointment with paed, She got sam on an extreamly good day.. & It felt like she just cudnt be bothered with him at the time. She said she would see us again in 6months then wrote 8months on her statement?.. So gota wait for an apt or i shall ring her and push for an appointment earlier and chuck this list in her face lol. (Shes normaly great but last time it was as if she had given up trying if you get me?? although she did say shes refering him to more people for more tests??) As for the meningitus side of things, she refered us for a MRI brain scan to see if the meningtius was playing part in hes delays and behaviours but nothing major came up.. only that he had scar tissue on the brain what contained small pockets of liquid causing hyper bursts. As for the sleep apneoa, i aint a clue whats happening.. Since having the UAO diagnosis from the sleep lab know one has contacted us regarding further testing as of yet.. & only appt what we are in for soon is (Ear,nose, throat) clinic on 19th (However this may be the doctor who refered him as its in same hosp but im uinsure has he goes he for several things lol) At the mo, Sams under a few diff specialists.. Hes under: -Paed -Dr Lim (Alder Hay for hes heart) -Orthotics -Ocupational therapy -Physiotherapy -SALT -Sleep lab -Hearing clinic (re Glue ear) -Ear,nose & throat clinic -Continence nurse (I think thats it..?) |

saying that, he does see a similar amount but he usually sees 4 at the same time in the CDC i would chase his appointment with her up or bring it forward and shove that list in her face tehehe theres gunna be a bunch of paeds out there having a load of demands put on them after people have been on this site! they wont think kindly of us lol sit her down and find a plan of action as to finding a cause.....i remember someone telling me once that sleep apnea can cause behaviour problems in the day but what sort i am unsure of and i doubt it would explain some of the other behaviours ![]() xx |
