Announcement

Families who have children and young people with special needs very often deal with similar life styles. We have all had concerns ranging from education, acess to services, respite and other issues directly related to their childrens needs. Parents of disabled children bring families together for friendship, to share information and to support one another.

The forum was created by parents who have children with special needs and is run by parents so we are all in this together. With us you will realise you are not alone

Parents of disabled children launched in October 2009 and we are growing day by day and are fastly becoming a major support resource for all

Free events in Winchester
cheapsensorytoys
We are hoping to run a couple of free events here in Winchester at the Hampshire Record Office for disabled young people and their carers/parents and were interested in knowing whether what we had in mind was something that would appeal. One event was showing a short archive film on football in our cinema here. This film could be captioned if there was demand however our cinema is on the top floor of our building and as we have no emergency lift, access is limited for wheelchair users.

Another possible event would be an interactive murder mystery which would be on the ground floor in our search room. A professional, experienced actor would lead young people through a hands-on drama exploring archives to solve the crime.

It would be great to know if there is demand for the above events or suggestions for other activities held at the Record Office for disabled young people. Feel free to email me on nicola.pink@hants.gov.uk or visit our website at http://www.hants.gov.uk/archives
