Announcement

Families who have children and young people with special needs very often deal with similar life styles. We have all had concerns ranging from education, acess to services, respite and other issues directly related to their childrens needs. Parents of disabled children bring families together for friendship, to share information and to support one another.

The forum was created by parents who have children with special needs and is run by parents so we are all in this together. With us you will realise you are not alone

Parents of disabled children launched in October 2009 and we are growing day by day and are fastly becoming a major support resource for all

Finally sorted out a nursery place!!
cheapsensorytoys
We've been putting this off for so long but yesterday I finally bit the bullet and rang the nursery we'd really like Jack to go to - only to be told that they'd allocated January places just two weeks ago!! However, the lovely receptionist said she'd talk to the Nursery Manager - who then rang me back (didn't expect her to really) and said she remembered Jack from the Sensory Group he used to attend there on Monday afternoons and invited us to go in today and talk to her.

Dave actually got time off work to come with us. We were shown round the nursery, everything was explained, we asked loads of questions - especially about support for Jack. The Manager was a flipping Saint in disguise - she assured us she would get things in place for when Jack started (I know she will aswell as Jack's Portage Lady knows her well) we got to sit down with her and discuss what we wanted for Jack and when we'd like him to go and she looked at her 'schedule' (I think that's what it was) and said she could give him a place on Monday and Tuesday afternoons!! Perfect! Then she asked if starting in January was soon enough for us - we were a bit gobsmacked! January will be fine though (I need to adjust - Lol). We just have to get two letters from two seperate health pros supporting Jack's need for nursery and listing his extra needs so she can get the ball rolling for statementing etc.

I can't believe it - it's like a big weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I know I'll cry on his first day - and I think the Manager does too as she said that if I wanted to stay for the first few times I was very welcome to - she said I could even just bring a book and have coffee in the staff room to save me travelling back home (nursery is 10 miles away)! Do people like her really exist?? Dave loved the nursery too - he said all the children seemed really happy and smiley - as for Jack, he made himself right at home and even asked for 'bubbles on' - as he appears to remember that's where the sensory room is! I needed to see him happy in there. Just wanted to share with you. xx
