this morning melissa jumped on her buggy board and the platic bent so when i pushed it got caught on the buggy and kept stopping it, so i threw it away (i was two steps out the door when it happened). So anyway she had to walk (only 15mins or so walk) shes not walked in so long i forgot why it was so bad, well after 10mins by the bin screaming, she decided she would walk, 2mins round the corner she fell sideways into a fence and knocked a few of the panels through, she started running, i started running with the buggy (while screaming stop) as there was a road coming up, and thank god nothing was coming she didnt stop didnt even hesitate, like there was no difference, i grabbed her arm shouted at her (scared me half to death) i tried to make her hold my hand but after a good 5-10mins of her rolling around on the floor screaming, i gave up and let her walk, when coming up to a road i left the buggy ran for her to get her before getting to the road, did this all the way to school, she fell over twice cut both her knees and her elbow, the only road crossing shes good at is waiting for the green man on the crossing at the main road....loving the green man Anyway after dropping her off me and bradley went to tesco to buy a buggy board didnt care how expensive, they were on special offer to my supprise but what didnt supprise me is they didnt have any left and non in the back ARGH! well the walk home was the same except on the busy school road she darted out side ways a woman had to emergency brake (she bashed her head on steering wheel) i burst into tears, i called my mum she picked melissa up and took her to her house, while i went home and sorted everything out, my mum keeps saying well you might get a car with her next year but from things ive read (i didnt really understand about mobility or how you got it) so i researched it abit, doesn't look like it with asd, dunno what im going to do when she outgrows the buggy boards, with the ease she broke this one i wonder how many we will go through this year, thank god for mums anyway, shes had melissa and came back about 20mins ago with a buggy board, they both went shopping for me ![]() |

if you get high rate care for melissa she is part way there when it comes to the mobility part when she is 5, just start now and write down everything that has happened in a diary and everytime you take her out, the mobility part when it comes to autism or "severe learning difficulties and severe behavioural disability" it is not how far she can walk its her behaviour and how dangerous it is for her to walk and not use a buggy or board, you cant use a wrist link as unless they have changed them a 2 yr old can take em off and at 5 you should be able to expect them to walk alongside you holding the buggy or your hand yeah right they will only walk if its in the direction that they want to go and i would like to see dla get a 5 yr old off the floor when they double in weight and kick or scratch whenever you get near them.
how old is melissa now? it might be worth starting to fill the forms in early doing a bit at a time and dont leave anything out, i know it makes our Children sound horrendous but at times they flippin are its just they are our Children and we love them regardless. this is the best time to write in the forms rather than when you have a good day and they actually behave ![]() , matt ran across road in front of a lorry and it was only a year or so ago just because he saw a pretty woman and wanted to say hello i was rooted to spot as lorry didnt slow down and if matt had stopped it would have hit him fortunatly the sports car coming the other way managed to stop and the lady at bus stop held onto him till we managed to cross the road. even at alton towers he ran off twice, luckily it was just to go to the toilets but one second he was walking nicely next he had run i just glad he goes into disabled and not ladies anymore hehe (unless the hand washers arent working when he will go into ladies to wash his hands )
There comes a point in your life when you realize:Who matters,Who never did,Who won't anymore...And who always will.. So, don't worry about people from your past, there's a reason why they didn't make it to your future. |

The mobility component of DLA is payable to children over the age of 5-From April 2001, severely disabled children aged 3 and 4 who have difficulty walking may be able to get the higher rate of DLA for getting around. Is there any ASD groups that you could get in touch with they would know a lot more.
