Announcement

Families who have children and young people with special needs very often deal with similar life styles. We have all had concerns ranging from education, acess to services, respite and other issues directly related to their childrens needs. Parents of disabled children bring families together for friendship, to share information and to support one another.

The forum was created by parents who have children with special needs and is run by parents so we are all in this together. With us you will realise you are not alone

Parents of disabled children launched in October 2009 and we are growing day by day and are fastly becoming a major support resource for all

my daughter went on the two year old pilot scheme i had to stop with her at day care untill statmenting funding was sorted
then she went to the nursery afterwards at three years
my daughter has been statmented from 2 years old
it is best for you to get the statmenting process done soon
it can take up to 26 weeks
have you got portage involved
when my daughter was having all this specialist to home and
first finding out problems
i found that portage great and they helped me soo much
they sit with you at home and leave task and there with advice and support (my portage worker was really supportive sad to say good bye to her)
get in contact with health visitor or who else you are seeing they can refer you

Hi
My daughter is 2 1/2 and i'm getting pressure from portage to send her to pre-school but I don't think she's ready yet. As regards the statementing my portage worker wants to see her in the setting to get a really clear idea of all her needs before she submits all the evidence,IEP's etc she has been collecting for the application. She wants her to be in the setting for at least 6 months before she will put the Statement application in.

Not sure what's best but I'm going to look at some local pre-schools soon. We don't have one in our village but there are quite a few in the surrounding villages, but each one someone has something negative about!

Let me know how you get on

i was in exactly same stage where u think she not ready for it
but the school had a nursery and a day care centre too which was helpfull because the school helped me out as well

but they have a big meeting with specialist from hospital and nursery staff with you there too and they put support in place called an iep meeting usually every six months and they let you know whats going to happen and what support she needs and how she going to get it
you have a say in this too

you do get used to all these meeting
the reason why the portage probably pushing for it
they think that she need support

but that doesnt make sense with portage why wait six months before putting the Statement application in.
i wouldnt let my child go to any nursery/daycare with out support been in place

do you know that as soon as your child starts nursery
you yourself can apply for child to be statmenting (thats how i did it )
portage given me the forms
and all i did is fill them in and letters i got from hospital send that too

this will tell you more information on statmenting
