Announcement

Families who have children and young people with special needs very often deal with similar life styles. We have all had concerns ranging from education, acess to services, respite and other issues directly related to their childrens needs. Parents of disabled children bring families together for friendship, to share information and to support one another.

The forum was created by parents who have children with special needs and is run by parents so we are all in this together. With us you will realise you are not alone

Parents of disabled children launched in October 2009 and we are growing day by day and are fastly becoming a major support resource for all

What I'd do is make an appointment at school to see the teacher again and tell her it was a lot to take in and you would like to discuss things further and to make sure you understand what it is she's saying.

hi windsor

it means that the child learns by being shown rather than told or reading instructions, for example when we were trying to toilet train matt mark took him to loo when he was having a wee to show him where to go (not a good way as he kept trying to catch the wee lol) or counting is done with counters or in matts case pictures of buses as with gdd and autism its not that they cant learn they just do it a different way at least to start with, it does make some things very difficult like matt still cant blow his nose as we cant show him how to blow Blush you will find you are probably already doing visual teaching when you show him how to use a fork or wash his hands

There comes a point in your life when you realize:Who matters,Who never did,Who won't anymore...And who always will..
So, don't worry about people from your past, there's a reason why they didn't make it to your future.

I think and i say think....
She thinks that your son is taught better if he sees something done and is shown the task rather than it being explained to him.

Say for example if i showed you how to tie a knot or i explained how to tie a knot you would be better tying the know having seen it rather than having it explained.

To be honest this should be standard practice as even when i was a manager at Burger king when we went on training courses they would always say show staff what to do rather than explain as its more effective
