Announcement

Families who have children and young people with special needs very often deal with similar life styles. We have all had concerns ranging from education, acess to services, respite and other issues directly related to their childrens needs. Parents of disabled children bring families together for friendship, to share information and to support one another.

The forum was created by parents who have children with special needs and is run by parents so we are all in this together. With us you will realise you are not alone

Parents of disabled children launched in October 2009 and we are growing day by day and are fastly becoming a major support resource for all

Swimming in school
cheapsensorytoys
My son is nearly 10 and is in your 5 of mainstream primary. He has cerebral palsy which affects all four limbs but can walk unaided indoors, all be it a bit unsteady. He requires help to get dressed etc but tries hard to do as much himself. He has a full time one to one in school. School have today told me that as from next week they will be doing a 3 week block of swimming lessons everyday at out local pool, however they say that whilst the one to one can undress him and support him in the pool she is unable to dry and redress him because of health and safety? What I'm presuming is that its down to the physical contact when drying him with a towel. They have therefore said that my son wil only be able to go with the rest of the class if I am prepared to go and dry and dress him myself but I work full time and so does my husband. I obviously don't want to see my son excluded but am at a loss as to whether there are any ore options available to us. If the leisure centre had a body dryer then I don't see there would be a problem but they don't. Anybody have any suggestions or advice please?
