Announcement

Families who have children and young people with special needs very often deal with similar life styles. We have all had concerns ranging from education, acess to services, respite and other issues directly related to their childrens needs. Parents of disabled children bring families together for friendship, to share information and to support one another.

The forum was created by parents who have children with special needs and is run by parents so we are all in this together. With us you will realise you are not alone

Parents of disabled children launched in October 2009 and we are growing day by day and are fastly becoming a major support resource for all

yes my sons diagnosis on paper is 'severe speech and language disorder' but he as no danger awareness prefers to play with adults, as very little undrestanding, imature play etc, i feel its more than that maybe autism, he as alot of autistic tendancies but they say he is too sociable but what they dont see is he is too sociable he approaches strangers like hes always known them and invades peoples personal space, he doesnt approach children but will allow then to come to him, a little boy had my son by the neck when he was in mainstream school and my son was just laughing thinking the boy was playing,he didnt understand, he was only 4 but we have alot of help with the severe speech and language diagnosis so time will tell hopefully if its anything else! i also have a 2yr old who as autistic tendancies but the ped says that doesnt mean he is autistic, he also has no speech! there ped is hopeless but thankfully the school have been fantastic!
are you looking at a special school? my son now goes to the s&l unit in the oakhill school in ardsley x

well your situation sounds very much like my own, i feel speech and language disorder is used too much. my son has ASD but he is too socialble to be dx. his doctor is however starting the assessment for ASD. she did this for my dd and she has a dx of ASD, she is my youngest but she is very different to reece. she will be going on to greenacre, my son is in cherrydale which is up cudworth. the taxi's alone cost £60 which i use his dla for, littleworth lane is nearer but it wasnt appropraite at thhe time. i have a review coming up as something has gone very very wrong at his current school. and i have been promised he will get a place at a special school. with all the trouble ive had if it get decided he has to stay the men in white coats will be taking me away from that meeting.
