Started Nursery and I was a wreck!!

Yep - Jack started Nursery yesterday! He's going for 2 half days a week at the mo (Mon and Tues afternoons). We know the nursery because it's where we used to go for Sensory sessions every week - even though it's 10 miles from our home. Anyway parents are invited to take children for two session and stay with them to help them settle in. Unfortunately, Jack chose yesterday to wake up at 6.30 instead of his usual 9.30/1000 so he wanted to sleep by the time we got there and was crying and clinging onto me - aswell as being scared I was going to make him stand on his achy leg (his pot came off last friday - and he won't walk on it). I was feeling a bit emotional anyway watching all the other children running around and playing and wishing Jack could do the same (plus it was just that time of the month - and I'm always super sensitive!!). The nursery teacher who we know from the sensory sessions was showing me where his peg was and his 'tray' and Jack was crying and saying 'No' and that did it - I just burst into tears! My God did I feel stupid - and once I'd started, I couldn't stop and then the teacher was tearfull too cause she was having to see her son (he's 19) off to Uni that night. Anyway, she took us into the Sensory Studio where it was quiet and there was another little girl with autism in there playing already and Jack calmed down - I blew my nose and got myself together then we went back into the main room. Honestly, it's such a lovely place and we're so lucky Jack got a place there. He settled okay and was even fine when I was sent off for a coffee and the 'Induction talk' by the nursery manager. I was still a wreck last night, had a good cry, went to bed early and read a book. Today - was totally different. Jack woke up later, we had leisurly morning at home and got to nursery all relaxed and smiley. He played with his 'one 2 one' lady and was all giggly. He painted (sort of), played with cars, building blocks and other toys and appeared in his element when he sat at the table in the 'home corner' and 3 little girls made him pretend meals and 'served' them to him whilst another one 'did her ironing'. He obviously felt very at home there!! He's absolutely knackered tonight and asked to go to bed at 7 and was asleep by 7.30! I'll have to go with him again next week and probably until his mobility improves but will leave him to play without me. I wish someone had reminded me how hard it is to let them go to 'school'. He's still so little and this time around is harder than 10 years ago when Ryan started at nursery!![/font] |

I know it is hard to let them go sometimes, i cried when Ben got on his bus and went to school for the first time, but his school are really good and i feel comftable with him going there |
