Nursery Schedule

My son is undergoing the statement process currently. We have requested for him to be sent to a sn school. But currently he goes to a nursery/ daycare, where he has been going for the past 2 years. The nursery has been given 8 hrs one - to -one funding for his key worker to spend time with him. He goes just 3 mornings so that funding should be sufficient for his care. We visited the nursery in the beginning of sept to check with them if they follow a teaching schedule for the Children and to keep us updated of what is done with him on a daily basis. This was basically to keep an account if they are using that funding given to them is the correct manner. Also this would help me understand what can be don with him during the rest of the day when he is at home. But the nursery has stopped giving the daily form and his key worker does not come to see him off when I pick him up. So now I am totally unaware of what he has been doing at the nursery. I have been asking them what he had done during the day quite a few times. But now I feel like I'm imposing by asking every time. Don't know what to do. Should I be sending a letter to the nursery demanding a form of his activities to be given to me ? I have a feeling the nursery has not employed anyone else with that funding and the key worker for my son is still not getting enough time with him as she still has to look after other Children. |

hello, i've experience something similar with my sons nursery but in regards to the amount of feedback i was getting. i'm up in scotland and are system is slightly different (i'm still learning so if there's someone up in scotland who knows more then that cool, the only reason i say this is our statementing as you call it is slightly different) anyway, 1st of all i would just maybe write a letter asking if you could speak to someone within the nursery i.e. teacher, head teacher etc, just to say that your wanting an update on your child and that you've got a few queries. if that doesn't work maybe write to the education department, again as i don't know how the statementing process works someone else might be able to give you better advice. in scotland (well my area) we have a named pre-school advisor who basically keeps in contact with till your child goes to school if there's someone similar where you are get in touch with them.
i would question though if your child gets funding for 1 to 1 for a set amount of hours and he's not getting it then where is the funding going. personally the way i look at it is we are our children voices and we have make sure they get what their entitled to. i'm like you i try and continue as much as i can at home as what he gets at nursery as he gets physio etc there and i want to do it with him everyday to make him stronger. i sometimes feel that when they see me there like oh god here she comes again but like i said i'm the one who got help him get strong and be there for him all his life so i have every right to know whats happening. honestly hope you get some where |
