hi all i have a daughter who has global development delay, possibly somewhere on the asd spectrum, sensory intergration, occupational therapy and speech and language. in nursery my daughter was on an IEP, in easter she moved up to full time school, we are now 7 weeks into the term and her new IEPstill has not been done, i keep asking when is it going to get done, as she needs the support, i get told i'll speck to special needs, in the end i spoke to head teacher on friday but as yet i still have no appointment, so i have decided to give them till friday as that is a week to arrange an appointment with me, if i dont hear from them i wont to go above the school, does anyone know who you contact about the school not doing their jobs proberly. sophie. |

Hi Sophie
![]() Have you considered asking for a full statement? Remember the IEP'S are only guidelines whereas a statement is a legal document that schools must follow? I will also recomend IPSEA http://www.ipsea.org.uk/ They specialise in educational issues and advice and are VERY good at there job and are impartial. So well worth contacting them. In the meantime if you think a statement is too much of a big step i would suggest putting your complaint in writing to the head teacher at the school and the SEN Co-ordinator and also forward it to the local authority. ![]() Our Irish members can also use our new website for Ireland which is |

hi daniel, the school don't think she meets the criteria for a statement, but i am considering it for later on in her school life but at the mean time she is stable, but isnt get the guidance that she needs, to help her along the way eg occupational therapy have a work programe for her, but as the iep is not in place it is not being done.
but i do think i will be writing a letter of complaint and writing to the local authority, thanks |

Sounds all very familiar to me....gave up battling and achieving nothing 3 years ago and now home educated.
The code breaker in my experience is the school says that a statement is unnecessary or they don't think you will get or the classic we can cope all means you speak and we don't listen and continue in doing do nothing and the LA will back us because we will ensure they will. I hope can achieve something, but don't put too much faith in your LA |
