cheapsensorytoys
Hi pls help im at a loss. we have a statement for our little boy 4yrs. We have not recieved any Speach and Language for 5 months now. I feel terrible that i haven't called them before now. I called the other day and was told that maternity cover was not made to cover our last SLT therefore all the other SLTs covered and made decisons about who would be on the list and some more excuses! I dont know how to pin them down to ensure that his SLT appt are met as he is entitled to them anyway and has a statment stating that too. thanks for listening any help gratfully received.

Hi Sacha,

A statement is a legal binding contract that has been applied & agreed by the Local Authority and the school. Therefore they have a legal duty to ensure all your son's needs are met as per the statement. You have the right to say this to the Head teacher or the head of SENCO at the school. You can also contact your local parent partnership service, click on this link to find your local one parentpartnership.org.uk. They can intervene on your behalf when there are problems with the statement. You can also contact the Advisory Centre for Education ace-ed.org.uk. I have used this service many of times for my own son & they have been very helpful. Hope this helps & good luck.

Hi, can i also say that the parent partnership are invaluable and you need to contact them. My son has speech and language delay, it is a massively shortstaffed service !, have you heard of AFAISIC , they have a helpline for parents with children with speech difficulties and can give you a lot of advice and help. Their helpline no is 08453555577 from 10.30 am, please call them. x regards amanda

Hi! Do you know which part of the statement the speech and language is covered!? As we were talking about our sons statement with regard to SALT yesterday with the school, SALT has been put in part 6 which is a 'recomendation' to external agencies so not technically legally binding like the other parts, I was basically told that SALT is not part of the education part so liek I say, its just a reccomendation, for that reason I THINK It would be exempt from being legally enforceable....if the SALT is covered in another part of the statement and is meant to be met by the school....then I think it would be a different matter. In regard to statementing issues, I'd recomend IPSEA VERY highly!! They are like parent partnership but not run by the local authority so I personally would think they're a little bit more impartial xx

IPSEA - do you have any more info on them thanks - thanks for your advice. i have thought about calling the parents partnership but have been a little worried due to the fact they are run by the council. The other thing is that our little boy isn't in a setting yet and they think that this gives them an excuse not to have followed him up - surley im not the only mum not sending there little one to school yet and surly his is still entitled too the services set in his statment. it crazy i worry that if its like this now what will it be like in a setting when even less infor and appt is taken out of your control. thanks for your advice I will make some calls
