Announcement

Families who have children and young people with special needs very often deal with similar life styles. We have all had concerns ranging from education, acess to services, respite and other issues directly related to their childrens needs. Parents of disabled children bring families together for friendship, to share information and to support one another.

The forum was created by parents who have children with special needs and is run by parents so we are all in this together. With us you will realise you are not alone

Parents of disabled children launched in October 2009 and we are growing day by day and are fastly becoming a major support resource for all

Just wanted to give members a heads up on a very useful course being run by an organisation called SOSSEN.

From School Action Plus to Special Needs Tribunal
Your Path to Success Workshop

Saturday 27 March 2010 :: 09:30 – 17:00

St Mary’s Church Hall :: Church Street Twickenham TW1 3NJ
(for directions, please go to http://www.stmarytwick.org.uk)

Appealing to SEND under the new Regulations has changed. Not only have the procedures altered and the underlying rules changed, but the decisions are becoming increasingly more concerned with costs than necessary educational provision.

This Workshop focuses on the practical issues of how parents and advocates deal with the Local Authority and/or the Special Needs Tribunal, and tells you how to optimise the preparation of materials for evidence. It will also help delegates to improve their chances of winning at a SEND Hearing. It will be invaluable for SEN Charities too, since the quality of evidence and presentation is most important to improving the chances of success. Parents’ evidence has to be even more convincing and the schools they choose have to be able to demonstrate more forcibly why they are the appropriate option.

Who should attend?

This Workshop has been designed for Parents and Carers and anyone who is considering, or in the process of, appealing to the Special Educational Needs and Disability Tribunal (SEND). It will help them optimise their presentation of materials for evidence and improve their representation skills at SEND Hearings.

It will also be invaluable for parent advocates, for SEN Charities, and for a range of professionals involved in SEN.

We are fortunate to have secured the support of
John Friel, SEN Barrister

Melinda Nettleton, Solicitor of SEN Legal Ltd

Mary Robertson, Independent Educational Psychologist

Melinda Silson, Independent Occupational Therapist

all of whom are expert in the field of SEND Appeals.

Workshop Fee: £55 per delegate, to include a buffet lunch
(£45 per delegate if booking registered before 1st March 2010)

An Attendance Certificate can be provided if required.
Please indicate on the form if you would need one.

See the Programme, Booking Form and contact details attached.
