Parents of disabled children bring families together for friendship, to share information and to support one another.

The forum was created by parents who have children with special needs and is run by parents so we are all in this together. With us you will realise you are not alone

Parents of disabled children launched in October 2009 and we are growing day by day and are fastly becoming a major support resource for all

Early Statement Review?
cheapsensorytoys
I had a quick word with Noah's teacher today as she had a few points to raise. One of them was that they (her and the Head) want to push for an early review of Noah's Statement as they feel they are not meeting his needs educationally and he isnt progressing as they would like. Plus they want to try and up the hours of his one-2-one (she already does unpaid overtime) and are thinking of requesting someone who has specialist training with regards to autism.
I have a meeting lined up nexted tuesday anyway at school with the Autism Outreach team and staff so I think it will also be raised again there too.
Has anyone here had an early statement review?

On the plus side they have completed their report for the DLA so hoping to hear back from them soon!

yes i've herd of them before, like the school said, they are usually arranged if the school feel he needs more than what is on his statement to fund the extra. if the school compile their evidence to support the extra, there shouldnt really be a problem getting the statement ammended. Does it say autistic on his statement? would be great for you and noah if they can get someone who specialises in autism, you might find he responds better Smile goodluck with the meeting Smile

At the time his statement was issued we hadnt had a diagnosis. I hadnt thought of that till you mentioned it! lol
So Im guessing that can now be amended and will go in his favor when requesting more one-2-one hours/rescourses etc?

Goint to have to write a list of things to remember for this meeting me thinks!

its a tricky one, i know a few people on here have had trouble getting autism or asd added to the statement...they tend to prefer the term 'learning difficulties' - because its more expensive to teach a child with autism! BUT...i think if the school are prepared to put in for it (especially if they want someone who specialises) and you refuse to sign it off until its on there Big Grin eventually it should be done (might not be that much of a fight but i know people have had problems previously)
