We have all had concerns ranging from education, acess to services, respite and other issues directly related to their childrens needs. Parents of disabled children bring families together for friendship, to share information and to support one another.

The forum was created by parents who have children with special needs and is run by parents so we are all in this together. With us you will realise you are not alone

Parents of disabled children launched in October 2009 and we are growing day by day and are fastly becoming a major support resource for all

How old is you son? Different sort of gates have different sort of opening. We used a Kiddyguard gate for our children. Have any of your friends got stairgates to see if he can master them? A silly question but is it for the stairs? Have you thought of locking doors? Making the areas safer using cupboard locks etc. Stable doors? You get can extra high stairgates but I suspect the opening mechanism is the same as the standard height gates. Have a look a wessex sleep centre website (sorry can't post links yet).

Another option to contact your OT department. We have had purpose built stairgates made in the past which have a proper lock on them and are extra sturdy.

Good luck
