i arent paying for them at the moment as it was done to try and make up for me getting no respite but i was told at the beginning they wouldnt be taking nights off me to cover this, they do special clubs that matt doesnt get to go to because they are aimed at younger children so in some ways its instead of that.
when they said they couldnt take matt back into respite they offered me 16hrs a month direct payments instead (i was actually entitled to it as well as the respite) and if i accepted it i would have to use half of it to pay for one of the workers who would work with matt even after he left child services so not only were they spending my money he would get as a child they were expecting me to carry it on when he is an adult (there are quite a few adult respite centres that will take matt) the transitional s/w cant wait for matt to be under adults hehe. i was told i could fight and get more hours but fingers crossed they have found private respite that specialise in autism (all thats needed is dont make him go bed at nine and leave him alone bored, and dont talk to him like a 5yr old he has been an adult since he was about 8 lol) so far we know the funding is in place just waiting to view it now.
its a very confusing thing, it was a lot simpler when he was younger, they just dont have any transitional respite in stoke on trent s/s basically

Everybody says how tough the transitional period is.
Its a case of the left dont know what the right is doing.
You would think they would organise a meeting prior to handover to discuss everything with both youn people/you/adult to get things moving!

it isnt that hun, they dont go into adult respite until they are 18 but ss only have one childrens respite and its geared towards younger children even though they are supposed to stay there until they are 18 and the transistion should just consist of tea time visits and an over night just as he is 18 but before matt turned 16 they didnt know what to do with him because he wouldnt sit watching tv all day or play on the swings outside (also did teenage boy things in living room until they got him a tv for his room )
personally i think they need to turn the upstairs of the unit (where ss are based but leaving soon)into a games room with snooker, wii or similar like a youth club style and later bedtimes and just have older Children there with more appropriate staff (ones that treat them like young adults not 5yr olds) but that is too simple an idea they would rather kick em out and hope they dont kick up a stink
