Announcement

Families who have children and young people with special needs very often deal with similar life styles. We have all had concerns ranging from education, acess to services, respite and other issues directly related to their childrens needs. Parents of disabled children bring families together for friendship, to share information and to support one another.

The forum was created by parents who have children with special needs and is run by parents so we are all in this together. With us you will realise you are not alone

Parents of disabled children launched in October 2009 and we are growing day by day and are fastly becoming a major support resource for all

cheapsensorytoys
Just wanted to inform members that a contact of mine has informed me that Cerebra have a fair bit of money left in there budget this year and are able to consider more applications than normal.

Cerebra are able to offer you assistance if your child:

•Does the child have a brain injury, neurological disorder, mental disability or developmental problem?
•Is the child aged 16 or under?
•Is the equipment or resource that would benefit the child not available from statutory agencies like the social services or the NHS?
•Will the equipment or resource improve the child's quality of life?

Things they will fund include:

•Specialist car seats
•Power wheelchairs
•Therapies (please check if your therapy is one we are able to fund)
•Trampolines
•Sensory toys∞
•Tricycles and quadricycles
•Digital drum kits
Touch screen computers

ooh i'd LOVE a touch screen computer for Matthew, he uses one at school. I wouldn't know what kind of thing they do though, or where to look? Is it similar to family fund where it comes from a specific place?

You apply for a grant. I asked about a bike for my son and they sent me the application form. Go onto the website and email them what you are after. The bike for my son is specifically for him he gets measured up and he will need support around his waist + a parent handle.

I would have asked for a bike as I've been after one for ages, but managed to get one from ebay a couple of weeks ago for £100! I was so chuffed, as its ideal for him!
