Announcement

Families who have children and young people with special needs very often deal with similar life styles. We have all had concerns ranging from education, acess to services, respite and other issues directly related to their childrens needs. Parents of disabled children bring families together for friendship, to share information and to support one another.

The forum was created by parents who have children with special needs and is run by parents so we are all in this together. With us you will realise you are not alone

Parents of disabled children launched in October 2009 and we are growing day by day and are fastly becoming a major support resource for all

We're off to brainwave tomorrow! Not quite sure what to expect, but I'm sure it will be interesting!
I can't even remember what time we need to be there in the morning, must ring them, oops!
Matty is doing great at the moment, he's learning to do sit to stand transfers from his wheelchair, and when weightbearing he will try and move one leg forward for a step! I'm not sure if they will do anything like this, or whether they will concentrate on eating and drinking which I initially asked for.
I've got to take my youngest with me, when I first booked it, the plan was for both of my daughters to stay with my mum. However my dad has since been diagnosed with epilepsy and as his seizures are at night, she can't leave him alone. Theres only enough room at their place for one, so my eldest is going there, as I don't want her to miss school. Still, Nataliya has attended physio appts with Matt since she was a babe in a sling, so I'm sure it will work out! He works better for her than he does for anyone else anyway! (too scared not to I think!)

Good luck hope it goes well, ive heard of brainwave, a lady on another forum who has child with the same syndrome as my daugther says lots of good stuff about them. It sounds like your son is at same sort of stage as my girl, she stands with suport and tries to move her leg a little, but i dont think she even knows shes doing it,she just laughs at us getting all exited.Nat

Haha that sounds just like Matty, not convinced he gets the 'walking' thing, just that moving his leg gets him lots of cheers and cuddles! I can see us resorting to chocolate biscuits and the like as a reward!

Hi, we visit brainwave and it's worked fantastic for our little girl. It's so lovely as your child will have their full attention for two days and lots of ideas! Good luck I hope it goes well for you.

Things can be hard on occasions but well worth it!Heart
