Parents of disabled children bring families together for friendship, to share information and to support one another.

The forum was created by parents who have children with special needs and is run by parents so we are all in this together. With us you will realise you are not alone

Parents of disabled children launched in October 2009 and we are growing day by day and are fastly becoming a major support resource for all

waiting for a decision
cheapsensorytoys
hey

well the dla have now had my forms for 2 weeks, iv applied for my 3 year old. im just feeling abit guilty because i get high rate care and mobility for my 5 year old son but i got someone from dial to fill out the forms, i had to wait weeks for a appointment for their help and then he barely wrote much on the forms just stating the obvious and said all the reports and his statement says it all and he was right and we got high rates now my 3 year olds reports are alot more negative about my son, well better from a dla prospective in the way they say how severe he is so i just filled the forms in the best i could using wording from my 5 year olds photocopies dla form and using websites on here and sending in his statement and about 5 other reports but then my husband said jokingly well lets hope he dont get turned down then since i didnt get dials help...now im convinced he will get turned down and it will be all my fault. so need distracting for another few weeks till we get our decision lol....is any one else awaiting a decision? how long have you had to wait? i waited 7 weeks for my others sons dla decision!!

thanks for reading think i just needed to get it off my chest hoping it would make me feel less guilty, feel like i should have gave em both the bestest chance of getting it and iv let my youngest son down n thats with out the decision, especially as he is obsessed with computers and taking pictures of his feet on his ds lol ... the professionals are telling me to encourage it as its the only thing he is really interested in but everything is soo expensive in the technology world! especially when we are on our 3rd mario cart game this year!!

dont stress about it, if you dont recieve the award you are wanting im sure there are people available (other than DIALS if you were unhappy with them the first time) who will help with your appeal. good luck, im sure as long as youve put down all the information you can it will make no difference whether you had help to complete the form or if you did it yourself. ive always done my forms myself and have always been awarded high rate in both care and mobility without the need to appeal.

hi thanks for that carrie, im sure your right in the sense it wont make a difference, actually i put more info on the forms than the dial man did, just feel like i didnt make as much as a effort to do the best by my youngest by getting the extra help! its nice to see someone who did the forms themselves be awarded 1st time tho so thanks ...it doesnt help that im just such a impatient person to start with that the waiting is killing me i was the same waiting for his statement to come through lol

remember that you are the ONLY one who has to deal with your sons problems day to day and so you are in a much better position to write about the realities of his problems than anyone from an outside organsisation. personally i wouldnt feel happy with anyone but me doing it, but then i'm a bit of a control freak lol
good luck

i've just recieved higher rate care for my daughter after a 6 week wait. i also get dla for my youngest since he was 3 months so i knew what the forms are like. they both have completely different conditions and need different types of care. caleb's is alot more medical based where chloe is more of a behavior thing and needing to keep a constant eye on what she doing, even though she has some speech we have to use visuals to get through the day. if i'm completely honest i really didn't expect to get higher rate for chloe and would of been ok if it had just come back as middle. they wrote to my consultant so i know what i wrote was backed up. i also felt a sense of guilt but as someone pointed out with the amount of appointments we have if it makes like easier being able to get a taxi (i don't drive) instead of the 2 buses to get to the appointment then thats what dla can help towards. good luck
