Parents of disabled children bring families together for friendship, to share information and to support one another.

The forum was created by parents who have children with special needs and is run by parents so we are all in this together. With us you will realise you are not alone

Mobility allowance advice needed

hi there my daughter is 4 now and i have been told i cant get mobility allowance for her is that right as she cant walk far without getting in a mood and she cant talk to tell you if it hurts or if she cant walk as far as you are wanting her to

It maybe correct advce based on the fact that mobility allowance at this age can only be awarded at the higher level and a lower level cannot be awarded until the age of 5.
But its very hard to say as i dont have any information.
What is your childs diagnosis and how does it effect her every day life?
How far can she walk in terms of metres as an approx guess Smile

Hi lou1988,

My son is now 8 years old, i first claimed for DLA when he was 4 and was turned down for full mobility several times, i did appeal but they said that some children develop slower than others so cant be considered for full mobility until he was at least 5 years old. I was finally granted full mobility when he was 7 years old. Keep trying dont give up. 52
