Free road tax for your car

If you have a child aged over three who receives the Disability Living Allowance (DLA) mobility component at the higher rate, then you may be eligible for free road tax through the DLA

Blue Badge scheme

If your child receives the DLA mobility component at the higher rate (or has severe walking problems) then you may be eligible.

In England and Scotland, if your child is under two then you will only get a Blue Badge if they need to be kept near a vehicle at all times or accompanied by bulky equipment.

Bus travel

All local authorities in England are required to offer schemes offering free bus travel for disabled people, including children. Some local authorities also offer free travel for carers.

In Scotland,There is a scheme called the National Entitlement Card which entitles you to reductions on fares.

Rail travel

Your child may be entitled to a Disabled Person's Railcard, which entitles you to a third off most train fares.

Subsidies for cars, powered wheelchairs and scooters

Motability is the charity that administers the government's Specialised Vehicles Fund, which provides financial assistance for people with mobility needs and this is not just for those in wheel chairs its also for people with walking issues along with a number of other issues.

The Motability Scheme enables users (or their families) to use their government-funded mobility allowances to obtain a new car, powered wheelchair or scooter.

You are eligible for help if your child receives the higher rate mobility component of the Disability Living Allowance. The scheme will complete all the relevant administration for you, including sorting out your paperwork.

"There are two motability schemes, contact hire or purchase. Most people go for the hire scheme. Depending on what you need, you hand over the mobility part of your DLA each month, and can pay a varying deposit often very small - again depending on what car you want.

Contract hire also provides all your INSURANCE and MOT'S and REPAIRS and items such as TYRES so this scheme means there are no expensive repair bills.

Purchase schemes mean you own the car at the end of the contract but you are responsable for all repair costs

Also on this I asked social services to sign a form and they bascally said no as they they wasent from disabilty team and I would get a disabilty sw if Bradley was on higher rate mobilty and they would sign, I just dont get how they was judging in the time spent with my family unit and then the little things I ask help on they cant help or wont help I asked them to be invovled as I was struggling just had my yougest baby and Bradley was at the most Difficult time they made things worst and and done nothing not even the little things Bradley wanted a bus pass with his picture on what more can a ASD child ask for/

does bradley see any specialists or go to a special needs school? or do you have a supportive gp who would write a supporting letter? it looks like in your area you dont have to have high rate mobility. if you have a local one stop shop you should be able to apply in there for a bus pass, also ask about the compainion pass as well.

i did have a letter from my social worker to get a badge but that was because in our area you need to have an up to date letter stating that we got high rate care due to wanting the companion part added. and dla were taking forever to send the letter.

There are plenty of useful things that are worth looking into.
All the basics such as tax credit increases,dla,carers allowance, digital tv help plus much more.

Also if you get 5 minutes its worth looking at our benefit check up at the bottom of the page within the green bar
